Poetry: The Ocean In The Sky (Original)

I wrote this poem when I was in a really bad place. I've published it on my blog so that you can see how miserable I was back then in comparison to how I am now.

Hopefully, it will inspire you to get better! I only wrote this poem last year and when I read it back now, it's hard to believe I was actually that low.

'The Ocean In The Sky'

Endless waves of sadness,

drown me like a wreck,
slowly i'm dragged under,
steel hands around my neck,

The ice starts taking over,

crawling through my veins,
numbing my whole body,
it rids me of my pain,

As the dark engulfs me,

I do not want to leave,
I do not try to fight it,
I do not try to breathe,

Instead, I let it claim me,

silently, I fall,
shrouded in cold darkness,
this is the end of all,

As I reach the bottom,

I see no anguish looms,
I could sleep forever,
the water as my tomb,

So I lay there for a moment,

with the ocean in the sky,
but somewhere there's a whisper,
"please, you have to try!"

I wonder who would say that?

I thought nobody cared,
faces flash before me,
it's too much for me to bear,

I don't want to die here!

It really is not fair,

so I kick off from the bottom,
now all I want is air,

As I break the surface,

the sunlight warms my skin,

I take a breath and swim to shore,
fuck the ocean.

  1. Great poem Kate, Had a read through your blog and I really like your writing style. Both your snappy down to earth entries and your provocative poetry, keep it up!

I was thinking as well, if you keep going with the playlists of calming music, I wouldn't mind finding a spot for a link to that on my own blog :) calming music isn't my thing, but I know it helps lots of people. Get in touch!

    1. Thank you, you're so kind! I'm glad you like it :)

Yeah calming music does help a lot of people so that sounds great. I have a lot of relaxing songs to offer so I could make it a regular thing... Here's my email katearbre(@)outlook.com if you want to talk about it. Let's not publicly spill our plans!

  2. This poem of yours is so powerful Kate. I can definitely relate to your words as I've felt this way before too. You're so strong for putting your feelings out there like this.

    1. Thank you for reading it! It's so terrible that you can relate, it's a sad thing to go through, but also it's so nice to know that you understand.
