Poetry & Natural Living- Sanctuary (Original)

Lately, I've been quite impressed with nature. So I wrote this short poem, inspired.

Sanctuary

I feel the Earth
beneath my feet.

My forest fortress.
Temple of leaves.

It grounds the gypsy soul in me.

By Kathryn Arbre

Earth is powerful. Magical. Ancient. And... we take it for granted.

Lately, I'm being drawn to Earth more and more. I've always been a spiritual person, but l never thought much about Mother Nature. I've been brought up trusting science when it comes to things like mental/physical health- with my mother being a nurse. So the importance of nature was not abundantly obvious to me.

However, I've done a lot of growing these past few years (I couldn't resist that pun!) and I've really started to find myself. Earth has been healing me. It eases my stress and soothes my mind. All I have to do is take a walk or reconnect with nature somehow.

It's so easy to forget all about the natural world when we live in an artificial society, consumed by technology. The amount of time spent in front of screens just isn't healthy. I know if I sit a few hours binge watching a series on Netflix, I feel like shit. I'll suffer with headaches and a 100% decrease in motivation. Whereas if I spend even a short amount of time outdoors, I'll experience the opposite- Happiness.

Just take five minutes of fresh air to ground yourselves. Appreciate this beautiful planet and learn that it does not belong to man. Man belongs to the Earth.

Thanks for reading!

  2. So true! The world is way too consumed with technology. I feel the same way when I sit in front of a screen for hours. It actually makes me kind of cranky!

  3. This couldn't be more true. I have to hike at least once a week in order to be in a state of mental happiness and peace. Nature forever heals ⌒.⌒

  4. Love his post. It's strange how at times in our life we get these urges to be one with the Earth. It's hard to explain it but I've felt it before. And it's beautiful.
